Madison, WI— The Madison Capitols’ pipeline to the University of Wisconsin continued on Friday as Jarod Zirbel (Green Bay, Wis.) announced his commitment to play for the Badgers beginning this fall.
Proud to announce my commitment to play hockey at the University of Wisconsin. Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way #Bucky— jarod zirbel (@zirbel_jarod) July 10, 2015
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound forward had a productive first USHL season in Madison, registering seven goals and six assists while consistently logging penalty killing minutes for the Capitols.
He had his breakout night against his hometown team, scoring two third-period goals against the Green Bay Gamblers en route to a 5-2 Capitols win on Dec. 6.
The undrafted winger earned the admiration of his coaches and teammates when he was awarded the Capitols’ Hardest Working Player honor.
Zirbel joins fellow Capitol Will Johnson (Santa Barbara, Calif.) on UW’s 2015-16 roster, as well as former Notre Dame Academy teammate Tony Stillwell (Sheboygan, Wis.), who will spend the 2015 season with the Capitols.
