Defenseman becomes first NHL draft pick to join Capitols

Madison, WI– The Madison Capitols have acquired defenseman Tyler Nanne (Edina, Minn.) from the Sioux Falls Stampede in exchange for a 4th round pick in Phase 2 of the 2015 USHL Draft.

The 18-year-old Nanne is the grandson of longtime Minnesota North Stars player and general manager Lou Nanne. He spent the past two seasons with Edina High School, where he helped to lead the Hornets to back-to-back Minnesota state high school hockey championships.

Nanne, a 2012 USHL Futures Draft selection of the Lincoln Stars, played a total of 18 games for the Stampede over the 2014 calendar year, recording a goal and four assists.

After his stellar senior season for Edina which saw him score seven goals and add 20 assists in 25 regular season games, Nanne was selected by the New York Rangers in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He becomes the first Capitols player to be an NHL draft selection.

Nanne has committed to play his NCAA hockey for the Ohio State Buckeyes, joining forward Sam McCormick as Capitols who are committed to play in Columbus.

The Capitols return to home ice on Friday, November 21, for a 7:05 p.m. rematch with the Gamblers. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive an orange Madison Capitols hat.

The night marks another Capitols’ $1 Beer Night. Madison will also host Green Bay on Wednesday, Nov. 26 before taking on Dubuque for a Black Friday home matchup on Friday, Nov. 28. All three of those games have a start time of 7:05 p.m.
