The Madison Capitols (13-11-2) begin a three game stretch of road games in the next four days starting tonight. Madison begins their second half campaign this evening against the league leading Chicago Steel at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
This will be third meeting between the two Eastern Conference rivals. Each team has rattled off a win at their respective home rinks. The Capitols will meet the Steel to close out the weekend on Sunday afternoon before putting the wraps on this three game road stretch.
In between their two meetings with Chicago, the Capitols will spend New Years Eve with a familiar opponent in the Green Bay Gamblers. The Battle for the Cheese cup is currently sitting at three games apiece before the Caps and Gamblers seventh meeting of the season.
Madison is 5-6-1 on the road this season. They'll look to ring in the new year on a high note with three major opportunities to earn some valuable points in the Eastern Conference standings. The Capitols enter the weekend with the 3rd best power play in the East and the 4th best in the league at 23.8 percent. Madison is one of three teams to eclipse the 100 goal mark this season. While averaging 4 goals per game this season, their +10 goal differential is fifth best in the USHL.
Offensively, the Capitols are led by Cornell commit, Nick DeSantis. DeSantis has tallied 24 points (9G, 15A) in 25 games played. The blueline pairing of Luke Mittelstadt and Ben Dexheimer have combined for a very impressive 40 points so far this season, each registering 20 points.
Tonight and tomorrow, puck drop is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. while Sunday's puck drop will be a matinee showing at 3:05 p.m.
