Middleton, WI – The Madison Capitols added another coach to the hockey operations staff on Thursday with the addition of associate head coach, Corey Leivermann. Leivermann joins head coach Tom Upton as part of the new hockey staff ahead of the 2020-2021 season.

"I am extremely excited to be a part of the Madison Capitols organization,” says associated head coach Leivermann. “I want to thank Tom Upton and Andrew Joudrey for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to taking the next step in my coaching career and helping coach Upton get this program turned around. A huge thank you to the Janesville Jets for a tremendous 3 years."

A native of Mankato, Minnesota, Leivermann finished his senior year of high school with 71 points in 20 games, earning a call to the Fargo Force the next season. In two years in Fargo, Corey tallied 77 points (28G+49A=77P) while also being named captain his final year.

Leivermann returned home to play for Mankato State for portions of three seasons before transferring to Gustavus Adolphus to round out his collegiate career. After only seven games with the Mississippi RiverKings in the SPHL, Leivermann made his transition to coaching.

Corey began as a scout for the Wichita Falls Wildcats in the NAHL before earning the head coach/general manager position with their NA3HL team, the Jersey Shore Wildcats. Leivermann joined Wichita Falls as an assistant coach when Jersey Shore’s season ended before joining the Janesville Jets the following season as an assistant. Following a year and a half as an assistant, Leivermann got his chance as he was promoted on January 2, 2019 to head coach of the Jets.

"We are very excited to welcome Corey in to our organization,” says head coach Upton. “He has a great track record of developing players and moving them on to the next level and I fully expect him to continue that success with our Madison Capitols players."

Over the past three years, Leivermann coached 32 Division I committed players, as well as two NHL draft picks.

Corey moves to Madison where he is ready to get to work ahead of the Capitols camps beginning mid-July.
