By Madison Capitols, 04/21/20, 3:00PM CDT

Renlund's Have Been With the Capitols Since 2015

Middleton, WI – Five years, 13 players, and countless hours of caring is the reason the Madison Capitols have announced Cari Anne and Tony Renlund as the Billet Family of the Year award.

"We want to thank every single family that serves as a billet for our players. We started this award this year to recognize their selflessness," said USHL President & Commissioner Tom Garrity. "While we know every single one of our billet families for all 16 of our Member Clubs welcome our players with open arms as if they're members of their own family, we are excited that going forward, our Clubs will be able to highlight one of these outstanding families each season. Their commitment to shaping these young men's careers and personalities during their time in the USHL is exemplary and we are continually amazed by the dedication they show in serving as a billet family."

The Renlund’s began their journey as a billet family during the Capitols 2015-16 season, hosting over 13 players over that stretch. On top of having two-3 Capitols players a season, they had two children of their own playing hockey.

Sam played in the USHL for the Des Moines Buccaneers, and just completed his first season at Colorado College while Leo just took home a Wisconsin State Championship for Verona High School. Tony has also coached, including stops at Oregon High School, the Capitols AAA Bantam program, Team Wisconsin, and the Janesville Jets 16U team.

Their dedication to the Capitols organization has been unmatched and their unwavering support is something the organization can only try and reciprocate. A true hockey family through and through has made sure that the Capitols and the players they host are lined up for success for years to come.
