Four-Goal Third Seals Deal for Green Bay

Green Bay, WI – A seesaw game tilted to a 5-4 victory for the Green Bay Gamblers thanks to a four-goal third period over the Madison Capitols on Friday night at the Resch Center. With the win, Green Bay gained a 3-2 lead in the Odessey Brands Wisconsin Cheese Cup.

Carson Bantle opened the scoring only 1:29 into the first period when he tallied his 13th of the season on a breakaway through the five-hole of Gamblers netminder, Nicholas Grabko, on the first shot of the game. With the goal, Bantle tied Ryan Kirwan for the team lead.

Reid Pabich followed up Bantle’s goal late in the period with one of his own. Pabich crashed the net and shoveled a shot past Grabko to double the lead before Brock Baker netted his third of the season to make it 3-0 before time expired in the first.

Green Bay was able to get on the board as Chad Hillebrand’s shot snuck under the arm of Christian Stoever off a deflection.

The Capitols would regain their three-goal lead on some crisp passing as the power play clicked early in the second. Unselfish passing from Ricky Lyle and Kirwan set up Pabich’s second goal of the evening.

Green Bay rallied back at the start of the 3rd period with back-to-back goals from Camden Thiesing and Ryan O’Reilly. The Gamblers tied the game on a rebound put in by Alex Servagno before Jake Schmaltz put the exclamation point on the evening with the game winning goal with only 3:45 remaining in the final period.

Christian Stoever stood on his head in net, making 47 saves in the contest before running out of gas. The power play netted one while the penalty kill went 6 of 7 in the contest.

The Capitols return to action Saturday evening as they finish off the weekend series against the Gamblers at the Resch Center. Puck drop is set for 7:05pm. The next home game will be on Friday, January 24th for the first $1 beer night of the new decade.
