Middleton, WI – A barrage of goals gave the Muskegon Lumberjacks their 2nd win of the weekend in a 5-2 win over the Madison Capitols on Saturday night.
Jan Lasak got the Lumberjacks on the board midway through the opening period on an open shot in the slot for his 2nd of the season, followed by a Rhett Pitlick power play goal to finish the period off, his 2nd of the weekend.
Danil Guschin started the scoring in the 2nd with his team-leading 13th of the year before Madison retaliated with Patrick Schmiedlin’s first since being acquired on December 12th from the Des Moines Buccaneers. Schmiedlin used his speed to force a two-on-one rush where he looked off the goaltender for a pass, but fired off the goal instead for his 4th of the year.
Guschin would net one more before Alex Konovalov made it a four-goal game at the end of the 2nd period.
Jack Horbach and Brock Baker’s game of hot potato stunned Jonathan Williams and opened the net for Horbach’s 2nd of the season.
Muskegon would go on to net two shorthanded goals from Dylan Wendt and AJ Hodges (empty net goal) on their way to victory.
Christian Stoever made 36 saves in the loss while the power play couldn’t get things rolling offensively.
Madison returns to action on Friday when the Capitols head to Green Bay to take on the Gamblers for round 5 of the Wisconsin Cheese Cup at the Resch Center. The next home game will be on Friday, January 24th for the first $1 beer night of the new decade.
