Madison Send Kristof Papp in Return

Middleton, WI – The Madison Capitols acquired forward Patrick Schmiedlin and goaltender Christian Stoever in exchange for forward Kristof Papp, a 5th round pick in the 2020 Phase I draft, and a 6th round pick in the 2021 Phase II draft.

“We’re super excited to bring in Patrick and Christian,” says head coach Garrett Suter. “Patrick has tremendous upside while Christian has a proven track record of success. We got to see his development earlier this year when we played him in Des Moines.”

Schmiedlin (6-foot, 180-pounds) comes to the Capitols in his 2nd USHL season with the Buccaneers. He has scored 8 goals in 77 games over the course of the two seasons. The native of Culver, Indiana committed to Colorado College back on October 10th, just after being named to the NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch list.

Stoever (6-foot-2, 172-pounds) is in his 2nd full season in the USHL as well after playing parts of three seasons starting with Des Moines before heading to Cedar Rapids, Youngstown, and ending with the Buccaneers to start the year before the trade. The 2000 birth year from Northville, Michigan is having his best season of his career, posting a .904 save percentage and 3.23 goals against average in 11 games between the pipe.

In a corresponding move, the Capitols have released Garrett Mackay, making room for Stoever to join Simon Latkoczy to split time in the blue paint.

Schmiedlin and Stoever join the team just in time to take on the Capitols in-state rivals, the Green Bay Gambler, for back to back games on December 6th and 7th at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena. Come out for the final $1 beer night of 2019 on Friday before turning around Saturday for a chance at a Carson Bantle Souvenir Cup to the first 500 fans through the door.

The Capitols own a 2-0 series lead over the Gamblers in the coveted Odyssey brands Wisconsin Cheese Cup.

If you can’t make it out to the game, make sure to tune into Mixlr and HockeyTV to get the live call from broadcaster, Cody Lefkowitz.
