Middleton, WI – Simon Latkoczy’s 45 saves weren’t enough for the Madison Capitols in a 3-1 loss to the USNTDP U17 squad on Sunday at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena
A heavy penalized first period haunted the Capitols for the second straight game as Redmond Savage got the USNTDP U17 squad on the board 13:29 into the opening period.
The Capitols responded early in the 2nd period as Stepan Pokorny slammed a puck off the boards to find Gustav Muller with a couple steps on the defender, where he fired a shot short-side for the tie game. Muller was pulled in last night’s game and was a game time decision only moments before the game.
Jeremy Wilmer picked up the game-winner for the U17 team with 8 minutes exactly remaining in regulation. Jack Hughes iced the game with .7 seconds remaining on an empty net goal in the 3-1 victory.
Latkoczy stood on his head in the loss, turning back 45 shots for the most of the season. The power play went scoreless again, while the penalty kill stopped 5 of 6 USA attempts.
The Capitols return to action on Friday, December 6th when they take on the Green Bay Gamblers for the final $1 beer night of 2019. It will also be round 3 of the Odyssey Brands Cheese Cup where the Capitols are already 2-0 against the Gamblers.
If you can’t make it out to the game, make sure to tune into Mixlr and HockeyTV to get the live call from broadcaster, Cody Lefkowitz.
