Madison Sends Draft Pick in Return

Middleton, WI – The Madison Capitols acquired defenseman Hunter Carrick from the Omaha Lancers on Saturday in exchange for a 6th round pick in the 2020 USHL Phase I draft.

“We’re really excited to add a new face in the locker room,” says head coach Garrett Suter. “We’re familiar with Hunter and his family since we previously had him in 2016.”

Carrick (6-foot-1, 183 lbs) is in his third season of junior hockey, playing across three different leagues as well. Carrick’s time began with the OHL draft, where we was selected in the 11th round by the Ottawa 67’s. In the same summer, Carrick was drafted by the Madison Capitols in the USHL Futures Draft in the 6th round.

After a season on the affiliate list, Carrick headed to Johnstown with the Tomahawks in the North American Hockey League. He was called up and split time between the Omaha Lancers and Muskegon Lumberjacks. Last season, Carrick began the year with the Lincoln Stars before heading to Chicago with the Steel. Carrick finished the year with the Islanders Hockey Club in the NCDC.

After heading back to Omaha to begin the year, Carrick comes back to the team that drafted him and help out on the blue line.

“We’ve had some injuries and need the help on the back end right now,” says Suter. “Hunter is a guy that’s been around the block and understands what it takes to succeed at this level.”

The 2000 birth year has two older brothers, including eldest brother Connor Carrick who currently plays defense for the New Jersey Devils.

Carrick will join the Capitols and is projected to be in the lineup Sunday when Madison takes on the Green Bay Gamblers at 3:05 pm at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena.

If you can’t make it out to the game, make sure to tune into Mixlr and HockeyTV to get the live call from broadcaster, Cody Lefkowitz.
