Middleton, WI - The Madison Capitols prepare for a double header weekend as they start with their home opener against the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday before heading to Sioux City to take on the Musketeers on Saturday.  Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m on both nights.

SERIES HISTORY – DES MOINES

• The Caps and Bucs have faced off twice a year since Madison rejoined the league in 2014.

• Over the past five season, Madison is 4-5-1 against the Buccaneers

• Des Moines owns an overall record of 3-2-0 at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena

• Madison has not beaten Des Moines since they swept the series back in 2015-16.

• Last season, the Capitols picked up a point in a shootout loss to the Buccaneers on April 6th at Cap Ice

 

ABOUT THE CAPITOLS

• Madison is 1-3-0-0 to begin the season after 4 games on the road or at a neutral site.

• The Capitols are coming off a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Dubuque Fighting Saints

• The Capitols special teams has been much better this season, but the penalty kill gave up two goals in the 3rd last Saturday

• Carson Bantle is tied for 2nd in the USHL with 7 points and leads the league with 4 goals

• The Capitols offense is the story this season, tied for 4th with 12 goals scored already this year

• The defense has been the issue for the Capitols thus far, giving up 16 goals in 4 games thus far, the 2nd worst in the league

• Simon Latkoczy has appeared in all 4 games for the Capitols so far this season, holding a .902 save percentage while allowing an average of 3.63 goals per game

• The Capitols power play is clicking at a 25.0%, good for 3rd in the USHL, while the penalty kill ranks 11th at 81.3%.

• Carson Bantle, Ryan Kirwan, and Kristof Papp made their way onto the NHL Central Scouting Preliminary Players to Watch list for the 2020 NHL Draft. They’re joined by affiliated Ryan McGuire and Grant Riley

 

ABOUT THE BUCCANEERS

• Des Moines ranks 5th in the Western Conference with a 1-2-0-0 record.

• The Buccaneers offense has been holding steady at 3 goals per game over their first 3 games, but they’ve given up 11 goals over that time frame.

• Forward, Alex Laferriere is coming off his first career USHL Forward of the Week honors following a hat trick and assist game against the Fargo Force last Saturday

• Netminder, Christian Stoever, has been lights out to start the year, posting a .972 save percentage through the first three games of the season for Des Moines, 2nd in the league

• Des Moines has five players crack the NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch list as well. Matt Choupani, Noah Ellis, Laferriere, and Patrick Schmiedlin all made the list, along with affiliate Timofei Kohoklachev.

ABOUT THE MUSKETEERS

• Sioux City ranks 5th in the Western Conference with a 1-2-0-0 record.

• The Musketeers offense has been struggling this season, ranking last in the league with only 4 goals in 3 games so far this year. Luckily, the defense has only given up 8 goals, tied for 4th in the league.

• Netminder, Ethan Haider, is coming off a lockdown performance in a 2-1 overtime win over the Omaha Lancers last week where he made 27 saves in the contest.

• Haider, is the sole drafted player on the Sioux City roster, being picked in the 4th round this past summer by the Nashville Predators

• The Musketeers have six players appearing on the NHL Central Scouting Preliminary Rankings, and all six are on the roster. Blake Biondi ranks the highest rated player on the weekend as a 2nd/3rd round candidate for the upcoming draft. Biondi will be joined by Christian Jimenez, Anthony Kehrer, Joel Maata, Jackson Nieuwendyk, and Sam Stange.
